I am thrilled to announce the generous sponsors for the Positivity 2022 Quilt Along to make Mercyful Quilts. There is a lot of information here, so you may want to bookmark this page.

If you are new to the Positivity QAL or have not heard of Mercyful Quilts, you may have some questions. Well, I have answers :-)

What is a Mercyful Quilt?
The Palliative Care Unit in the Mercy Hospital gives quilts to their terminally ill patients to bring some measure of comfort to the person and their family as they go through the difficult process of dying. The family ...

Synergy Quilt Pattern Release!!! from Sew Preeti Quilts

It was about one year ago, when I first doodled the idea that became Synergy. I first made Synergy in Rainbow Fabrics on a Light Gray background, provided by Island Batiks.

The second version was in Tantalizing Teals on a Yellow background.

Since then, I have been playing in EQ8, with different Island Batik collections.

In Playful Purples (Island Batik Foundations)

In Interurban (Fall 2021)

But I am so looking forward to the different versions that are cooking in the following studios of North America.

Mill House Spring Quilt from Curlicue Creations

This sweet pink and white Mill House Spring quilt is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

This quilt is quilted with matching color thread in pebbles, back and forth lines, and onion swirl motifs.

This quilt would be a lovely soft focal point in any room as a wall quilt.

The 41" x 49" size also makes it great for traditional use as a baby or lap quilt.

The Mill House Spring quilt features a sweet and pretty in pink traditional hourglass design framed with gold and green borders.

This quilt includes a hanging sleeve so it can be ...

Island Batik Step by Step Challenge from Sew Preeti Quilts

The Island Batik challenge for January 2022 reads as follows:

Island Batik has developed ten colorways of gradations with 20 steps in each. There are so many quilt projects that make use of gradations in color and value. Your challenge is to create a project that demonstrates this step by step change in color value!

I love this challenge. I absolutely do. I love creating quilts with gradations, where color (or value) gradually changes from one to the other. I made a Gradations quilt in Konark, even though it wasn't a requirement. Cross Currents was based on the same ...

Don’t forget your joy from Quilt in Progress

My life has become as busy as a new mom with a baby. I do get some “free” time, but I use it to try to keep up with housework, animal chores, and yard work. I can’t go far, or if I do I must use the indoor cameras to know when my husband is awake. He is nearing the final stage of Alzheimer’s Disease.

I’d had a few days of so much frustration that I had a short temper. I didn’t like myself much. One morning I woke earlier than normal and used the extra ...

Waterfall Lap Quilt from Goer

I'm super excited about my lated finished lap quilt. I love the palette and look forward to cuddling up on the couch with it.

Three years ago I started Amy Ellis's Waterfall Quilt. I really loved the wash of color over the quilt. She had made two monochromatic versions in blue and green. At the time I started, solids were quite minimal in my stash.

The majority of my stash is blenders, fabrics that read as a single color, so I focused on those prints. I started with my favorite palette: navy, turquoise, and lime green, and added ...

Progress on t-shirt quilt from Quilt in Progress

I found more time to work on the quilt. I had listed the dimensions I wanted for each patch and started cutting the stabilizer. I added 1/2 in to each dimension so that I had a 1/4 inch seam allowance on all sides. As I had each one cut, I noted the dimensions on a slip of paper and pinned it to the pieces. I had the width noted first so I would know how to orient the stabilizer before fusing.

I came to the shirt that said American Classic, and decided I didn’t want it included ...

Island Batik November Challenge & Blog Hop from Sew Preeti Quilts

Welcome to Day One of the Island Batik's November 2021 Blog Hop - Storm at Sea.

The November Challenge for Island Batik required that we make a Storm at Sea quilt, lap size or larger, using the Summer 2021 Fabric bundle. I received the collection Bellingham Bay - designed by Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design.

Bellingham Bay

Those of you who know me know that these are not my favorite colors. I find them dark and depressing.  Guess this was an added dimension to the challenge.

I turned to EQ8 to mock-up the color combinations to come up with a ...

My first t-shirt quilt from Quilt in Progress

I know the concept isn’t new, but I haven’t tried it yet. I’ve been preparing for this for a lot of years – I remember asking my son’s mother-in-law on his wedding day, while we were at the hair salon, what type of stabilizer I would need to buy. My son has been married 5 years now.

I weeded out some shirts from my husband’s side of the closet and bought him a slew of new ones. He enjoyed helping me to decide which can go into the quilt. This will be his lap quilt and ...

Scrappy Mod Quads from Dizzy Quilts

I can't remember when I purchased the Mod Quads pattern by Designs by jb. I think I was on Pinterest looking for ideas for scrappy quilt designs (I'm still desperate to bring my scrap bins under control) when I found it. I googled the pattern name and designer and was surprised to find no website for Designs by jb. Instead, I found an online shop that sold it so I purchased the pattern from them.

The picture I had seen on Pinterest looked nothing like the cover photo on the pattern. It was made up in black and ...

Caved Quilt Finish and Review from Dizzy Quilts

I don't share progress or process posts or pictures here or on Instagram. I just never think to stop and take a few pictures while engrossed in a project. Also, because of my full-time job, my sewing time is so precious. I want to make the most of it and just sew! What I thought I could do instead of simply sharing a finished project is provide you with a little bit of a review. Hopefully, you'll find this helpful.

A little note before I get started: I don't get sponsored and pay for everything I share ...

The Julia Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

I finished another quilt this week and I love it a lot more than I thought I would!

Here is my pink and purple Julia Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting.

This whole quilt started with me wanting to use Kona Lingerie as my background and a purple print from my stash as the backing. When I went searching through my fat quarters, I noticed my stash of pink and purple fat quarters is really depleted. My options were therefore a little limited and in the end, I just wasn't crazy about my selections. But now that it's all ...

Bokeh Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

Back in the Fall, Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl launched her annual quilt-along. I've participated in her quilt-alongs a couple of times now and when I saw this year's design, I just had to take part again. This year's pattern is called Bokeh. The quilt-along wrapped up just a few days ago and Yvonne is hosting a link-up party on her blog so that all the participants can share their finished quilt.

All of the fabrics I chose for my version came from my stash and the background is Kona White.

The middle blocks came together very easily ...

Donation Quilt "Brown Angles and Squares" from Elsie Quilts

This is the finished quilt from last post. It isn't very big but would go nicely on the lap of a person who gets around in a wheel chair. It is simply quilted and rather striking. The blocks were made by another EDQG member from a 2014 class by Heather Stewart in Ontario who has since retired from teaching. Her pattern is called "Angles and Squares."

I enjoyed finishing this and hope our guild can find a good home for it!

Downstream Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

This week's quilt finish is my new favourite! I've always been attracted to very graphic, modern and all-solid quilt designs and this one definitely fits all of the above characteristics.

The pattern is by Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl. I'm a huge fan of Yvonne's work and this design had been on my to make list for a little while. But for some reason, I thought this would be incredibly difficult and take a long time to sew. It really didn't! The design is so clever - it's really all about colour choices and colour placement ...

Mountainside Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

For some reason, I always doubt myself when it comes to putting fabrics together to make quilts. I relied on pre-cuts for such a long time where you get a little bit of fabric from an entire collection, that I don't feel like I built up my skills for pulling fabrics.

This quilt pattern however, requires 19 fat quarters and one accent fabric. I had a fat quarter bundle of the Twenty-Three collection by Eric & Julie Comstock for Moda but knew I'd need to add a few fat quarters from my stash. I looked at one of the ...

Gather 'Round Quilt from Dizzy Quilts

Yet another Bonjour Quilts pattern all made up! This one is called Gather 'Round and I'm more than a little bit in love with it.

Besides the 3.25 yards of background fabric (which is Kona Ash in my version), this pattern doesn't require a whole lot - one yard of the chevron fabric (Kona White here) and 0.75 yard of the motif fabric (Kona Berry). I can picture it being pieced from a variety of different fabrics in the same colour family though - so you potentially could use fat quarters.

Kristy who is the designer behind Bonjour ...

Introducing Winter Trees from Patterns by Jen

I'm so excited to introduce you to the first pattern from Patterns By Jen for 2021!

Winter Trees is the perfect quilt to keep around all winter long.

I love this quilt. When I started sketching it I wanted something simple that brought to mind the quiet in the winter woods.

There's a special silence that takes over the woods when the snow is falling, it's something that can't be described, but I hope this pattern brings it to mind.

It's not just a quilt pattern, it's a bed runner, too.

Add a modern ...
